                               Alvin Jenkins Lowe

An informal burial ceremony will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, April 10, 2021 at Highland Cemetery in Hattiesburg Mississippi  for Dr. Alvin (Al) Jenkins Lowe, 89, of Tampa, FL.

Al  passed away in peace on March 28, 2021.

He was born in Methuen MA in 1931 to Helen (West) and George Lowe.  After attending the Tilton School in New Hampshire, he joined the Army and served in the Korean War in 1953 and was honorably discharged.

After leaving the Army, Al made his way down to Mississippi Southern College (now University of Southern Mississippi) where he earned his undergraduate degree and also met Elizabeth.  They were married in 1954.  Al then went on to earn his Doctorate in Education from the University of Virginia (67).

With the family of 6 at this point in the early 1960ís, Al began his fulltime teaching career at Loyola University in New Orleans until he was offered a new position at the University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida. Al taught at USF for 30 yrs. before he retired as a Professor Emeritus in 1996.  In his retirement, he enjoyed being with family, watching both Tampa and Boston sports teams, and many other around the home activities.

He was preceded in death by his wife, of 55 years of marriage, Elizabeth (Munson) in 2009.

He was a loving father of daughter, Kate Prugh and 3 sons Fred (deceased), Ralph, and Owen; proud grandfather of 11 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren;  also survived by his sister, Sarah Benet.  nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
