Anne Brooks Winstead

On Sunday morning, September 30, 2018, Anne Brooks Winstead passed away at the age of 81. Mrs. Winstead was born February 27, 1937, to Merritt Harlan Brooks and Dorothy Middleton Brooks.  She spent her early years living in Yazoo County, MS, and moved to Jackson, MS, at the age of eight, graduating from Central High School in 1955.  In 1959 she graduated from Millsaps College, where she was a member of Beta Sigma Omicron sorority, and married Henry Gladstone Winstead, Jr., of Burns, MS. They moved to Atlanta, GA, where she taught at Avondale High School. After returning to Mississippi in 1961 she served as an officer in local, district, and conference organizations of the United Methodist Church.  Mrs. Winstead served faithfully as an engaged and active pastorís wife for almost six decades and established life-long friendships in every church served.  Her kindness and loving spirit touched all those blessed to know her.  She also taught piano, Sunday School, and community college English and worked for the Hattiesburg District of the United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Winstead is survived by her husband, Reverend Henry G. Winstead, of Hattiesburg, MS, as well as by her daughter Dorothy Winstead Porter of Ocean Springs, her son Christopher Winstead (Sandra) of Hattiesburg, granddaughters Catherine Redmond (Andrew), Rebecca Winstead, and Rachel Winstead, and great-grandson Brylan Redmond.
She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Mrs. Winstead was a strong supporter of education and endowed scholarships at both Millsaps College (Henry G. and Anne Brooks Winstead Endowed Scholarship) and the University of Southern Mississippi (Brooks-Winstead Physics Scholarship Endowment). Gifts in memory of Mrs. Winstead may be made to these scholarship funds.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 3, 2018, from 5:00-7:00 pm at Hulett-Winstead Funeral Home in Hattiesburg, MS.  A second visitation will be held on Thursday, October 4, 2018, from 1:00-2:00 pm at Court Street United Methodist Church in Hattiesburg with a memorial service to follow at the church beginning at 2:00pm.  Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery in Hattiesburg, MS.
