Anthony Rex Broome

Anthony Rex Broome, age 62, passed away Sunday, October 21, 2018 after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer.
He was born September 7, 1956, to father Paul Broome and mother Johnnie Vee Russell Broome.
Rex attended school in Warren County.  After moving from Vicksburg to Columbia, he graduated from Columbia High School in 1974.  He played varsity football and was quick as a cat at his outside linebacker position.  He was always proud that he led his team in tackles versus his old school, Warren Central, when Columbia upset them, 8-7.
He served his country by joining the U.S. Air Force.  After his service, he returned home to Sumrall where he was a carpenter and a poet.  He loved music, especially rock and roll, and recently had purchased a guitar and amplifier to learn how to play.  He loved to sing old hymns and gospel songs.  He attended church at Fairview Baptist Church, Sumrall, MS.
Rex was preceded in death by his parents, and his niece, Heather Broome Snyder.
He is survived by four aunts, Barbara O’Brien of Madison, Connie Murphree, Janice Russell, and Cathleen Russell all of Sumrall; a brother Geoffrey Paul Broome (Kathy) of Sumrall; a sister, Teresa Broome George (Michael) of Clinton; three nephews, Chad Broome of Sumrall, Kevin George of Vancouver, BC and Taylor George of Clinton and one great niece, Alana Marie Snyder of Sumrall.
Services will be held Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at Fairview Baptist Church, Sumrall, MS, at 11:00 am. with visitation beginning at 9:00 am prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in First Baptist Church Sumrall Cemetery.
The family wishes to thank Ruth Williams, Rebecca Gleghorn and Maxine Hollins for their loving care and kindness during Rex’s illness.
