Bettye Williams Holmes

     Bettye Williams Holmes of Hattiesburg, who entered God's kingdom on Sunday, November 27, 2011, will be remembered by her family and friends for her commitment to God, family, and country by her lifelong service.
A member of Main Street United Methodist Church since 1958, she served as teachers of Sunday School and Bible School and service on the Administrative Board, Council of Ministries, Public Relations Director of the Evangelism Committee, Nominating Committee, and "We Care" Committee. A member of the Cecil Jones Sunday School Class, she was a life member of the UMW and founder and co-leader of the Beth Vickers Circle and served as President of the Methodist Hospital Volunteers.
     With an extreme interest in her heritage, Bettye served as the Mississippi State President of the Colonial Dames from 2001-2003 as well as other offices over the years. Within her local chapter, she was Chapter President. She was State Regent for the American Colonists from 1999-2003 and a member of the Sons and Daughters of the Pilgrims. In the Daughters of the American Revolutions, she served as the Chapter Regent for the John Rolfe Chapter for two three year terms. She was a member of the Southern Dames of America.
Active in the American Red Cross, she served on the board and as a disaster volunteer. She was a life member of the Junior Auxiliary.
     She was educated at Washington University in St. Louis, MO.
     Bettye was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. & Mrs. Buron Williams. She is survived by two daughters, Margaret Williams Holmes and Mary Kay Holmes and son-in-law, Alexander Stolin; two granddaughters, Ashley Hiatt and Katherine Stolin, one grandson, Paul Stolin, and one great-grandson, Evan Hiatt.
     Bettye's life will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at Main Street United Methodist Church in Hattiesburg.
     Visitation will be in the Sanctuary at 1:00 PM and the service will follow at 2:00 PM.
     Memorials may be made the Main Street United Methodist Church Aldergates Mission.
