Betty Myers Garraway

Betty (Blue) Myers Garraway, a longtime resident of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, died peacefully on October 19, 2019 at her residence, Provision Assisted Living, Hattiesburg, Mississippi.


She was born in 1926 to Holt and Thelma Myers in Tampa, Florida.  Early in her life the family moved to New Augusta, Mississippi, where she later graduated from New Augusta School.  She attended Belhaven (College) University receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Education. Betty was a long standing member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, serving on various committees and participating in the activities of the women of the church.



She is survived by her son, Hugh Pearce Garraway, III (Jo Ann) of Petal, Mississippi; three grandchildren, David Garraway (Michelle) of Starkville, Mississippi; Drew Garraway of Winter Park, Florida; Holt Coltharp (Jennifer) of Nashville, Tennessee and four great grandchildren;  her sister, Thelma (Sis) Fryant, of Brandon, Mississippi; and three nephews and their families.



Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Holt and Thelma Myers; a sister, Miriam Myers; Hugh Pearce Garraway, Jr., her husband of 71 years; and her daughter, Susan Victoria Garraway.



Betty enjoyed belonging to several ladies organizations in Hattiesburg; her grandchildren; football games; and life in general.  She was lovingly cared for in the last days of her life by the staff of Provision Assisted Living and Kare-in-Home hospice.



A memorial service will be held at 10:30 am on October 26, 2019, at the columbarium on the grounds of Westminster Presbyterian Church, 115 North 25th Avenue, Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
