Donald Lamar Davis

Donald Lamar Davis left his earthly home on October 7, 2018. He was  born July 25, 1933 in Pensacola, Florida to Madie Ruth Davis and Huey Lawson Davis. He spent his early years in Pensacola, later moving to Hawaii where he graduated from Roosevelt High School. In 1951 he enlisted in the US Army, serving in combat in Korea as well as being stationed at various other Army bases. He was medically retired in 1958 and enrolled in Pensacola Junior College, transferring to Florida State University where he earned a BA in Mathematics and an MBA. He was later awarded a Ph.D. in Information Systems from the University of Florida. Faculty appointments included those at Florida State University, Valdosta State, Texas A&M University, University of Mississippi, Missouri State and University of Southern Mississippi. He retired from the latter as the McCarty Distinguished Professor of Information Systems.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 56 years, Donna, as well as six sons and daughters. Sons include Allen Kercher (Angela) of Pensacola, Donald Davis II (Casey) of Hattiesburg MS and Mark (Lisa) of Spring Hill, TN. His daughters are Linda Barnes Evans of Pensacola, Susanna Hudson (Ken) of Houston TX and Betsy Tait (Scott) of Pensacola. There are also 18 beloved grandchildren and 5 beautiful great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Hulett-Winstead funeral home, 205 Bay Street, Hattiesburg on Wednesday, October 10, 2018 with burial to follow with military honors in Barrancas National Cemetery, Pensacola, Florida on Thursday, October 11, 2018.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be directed to Christian Services or Pine Belt Christian Womens Job Corp in Hattiesburg or the charity of one’s choice.
