Dr. John M. Faust
Dr. John M. Faust, Sr., 97, or as those knew him well, “Doc,” went home to his Savior on Thursday, January 9th, 2019, surrounded by the love of his family and friends who adored him.
All that knew Doc loved his sensible view of life, his practical jokes and wit, the great love he had for God and family, and his lasting devotion to his sweetheart, Della Rose Harris Faust, who he will now join in Christ’s Kingdom.
Born in McComb, Mississippi on January 12th, 1922, a graduate of The University of Mississippi and The University of Tennessee School of Dentistry. He served as a Captain in the United States Army during World War II in the Philippines and Japan. He was an orthodontist in Hattiesburg until his retirement in 1982. He served as President of the American Association of Orthodontists, Trustee of the American Dental Association, President of the Southern Society of Orthodontists, President of the MS Dental Association, Fellow of the American College of Dentists, Fellow of the International College of Dentists, Fellow of the Mississippi Dental Association, Recipient of the University of Tennessee College of Dentistry 1976 Outstanding Alumnus Award and recipient the Lifetime Achievement Award for the American College of Dentists. He was an Elder at First Presbyterian Church of Hattiesburg.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years Della Rose Harris Faust, his parents; Thomas and Gertrude Faust of Columbia; brother, Thomas Faust; sisters Adalice Armstrong and Helen Fairly.
He is survived by his son, Dr. John Mogan Faust, Jr. of Ridgeland, MS; daughter Susan Faust Haydel (Richie) of Ellijay, GA; grandchildren, Katherine Rose Sandoz (Sam), John Mogan Faust III, Luke McQueen Haydel (Ondrea), Emily Rose Pongrass (Chris), and Samuel Howell Faust.
Services will be held at 2:00 PM Monday at Hulett-Winstead Funeral Home Chapel with visitation beginning at 12:00 noon.
Entombment will be in Roseland Park Mausoleum.
