Dr. Willis Walker

Dr. Willis Walker Jr passed away at Asbury Hospice House on Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at the age of 92.
Dr. Walker was preceded in death by his parents, Willis Walker, Sr and Mary Birdie Dyess Walker both of Waynesboro, MS. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Hattie Pearl Walker Decell and Annie Ruth Walker Grim.
Dr. Walker is survived by his wife, Sharon Franklin Walker. They were married at Galloway Memorial Methodist Church in Jackson in 1955 and celebrated 62 years of marriage last October.
Dr. Walker is lovingly remembered by his children:  Dr. Linda Kyle Walker, Mrs. Laurie Walker Karstens, and Mrs. Sharon Elizabeth Walker Campbell, and he leaves behind 6 grandchildren.
He was one of the original staff members of the Forrest General Hospital when it opened in 1954, and he practiced medicine as a general surgeon and general practitioner for 38 years. He was one of the  founding members of Southern National Bank, that later became Regions Bank, and  he served on the board for many years. After retiring from private practice, Dr. Walker continued to serve in the medical community  as the director of LAW outpatient surgery until 1997. He served as a pilot in the U.S. Navy Air Corp during WW II.
The memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, April 16, 2018 at Main Street United Methodist Church with visitation beginning 12:30 pm at the church.   Hulett-Winstead Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
