Forrest Durwood Ruegger                             

A graveside service for Forrest Durwood Ruegger, 85, of Purvis, Mississippi, will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, April 9, 2020 at the Pine Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Purvis. 

Mr. Ruegger died April 6, 2020 in his home surrounded by his loving family.  He was born in Waldenburg, Arkansas, on October 8, 1934.  He married Carolyn Joyce Maples on January 24, 1958, in Pampa,Texas. 

Durwood Ruegger taught real estate law and business law at the University of Southern Mississippi from 1983 until he retired in 2002, when he was awarded the rank of Professor Emeritus.  Prior to his academic career, Dr. Ruegger practiced law in Hollandale, Mississippi, from 1967 until 1983, during which time he served as both City Attorney and Municipal Court Judge.  Durwood was a veteran of the United States Air Force, holding the rank of Staff Sergeant.  

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Carolyn; daughters,  Karen Ruegger Thornton (Vince) of Collins and Anita Ruegger Morrow (Dwight) of Purvis; son, Stephen Ruegger of Atlanta, Georgia; and grandchildren, Elise Thornton Firth (John), Ian Shane Thornton, Leanna Joyce Morrow, Evan Prince Thornton, and David Peyton Morrow.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Forrest Edward and Mary Magdelene Ruegger, and his sister, Thelma Joan Ruegger Shirey.
