Visitation for Mr. Massengale, age 83, of Hattiesburg will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at Hulett-Winstead Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Highland Cemetery in Hattiesburg. Internment will be with Military Rites performed by the V.F.W. Post 3036 Honor Guard. Services will be conducted by Pastor Brian H. Davis of Bay Street Presbyterian Church with eulogy by long time friend Mike Smith.  Pallbearers will be David Sessums, Jeffrey Andrews, Larry Doleac, Dewayne Massengale, Alan Massengale, Don Massengale, Hoss Massengale, Mike Massengale, and Hays Latham. Mr. Massengale passed from this life at his residence surrounded by his family and friends on March 13, 2018.
     Mr. Massengale was a lifelong Christian who practiced the Baptist faith. He graduated from Hattiesburg High School and the University of Southern Mississippi. He served in the United States Army as a Second Lieutenant, and retired from the City of Hattiesburg as the Land Code Administrator. Mr. Massengale was active in Dixie Youth Baseball for many years as a coach, and local, district, and national Director. He was instrumental in bringing the Dixie Youth World Series to Hattiesburg in 1989 and 1998. The Hattiesburg Dixie Youth Scholarship was named for him. He was also an avid supporter of USM sports. Mr. Massengale received the Hattiesburg Exchange Club Book of Golden Deeds award. “Pop” as he was known to most, touched the lives of many of the youth of the Hattiesburg Community.
     Mr. Massengale was preceded in death by his parents, William Kermit and Dora Jackson Massengale; three brothers, Marvin Massengale, Francis “Feller” Massengale, William K. “Bubby” Massengale and one son Fred Lewis Massengale Jr.
Mr. Massengale is survived by his devoted wife, Mary Beth Lowry Massengale, one daughter, Suzanne Massengale (David) Sessums of Vicksburg, MS, one son, Matthew Eugene (Kathy) Massengale of Hattiesburg, MS and two step daughters, Kaylie Michele Townsend of Chandler, AZ and Reagan Lowry (Jeffrey) Andrews of Purvis, MS. Two granddaughters, Gayle Latham (Robbie) Goudelock of Cumming, GA, and Laura Latham (Will) Montgomery of Madison, MS. Three step-granddaughters, Kimberly Nichole Lincoln of Phoenix, AZ, Rebekah Grace Andrews, and Karlie Adyson Andrews of Purvis,MS. Four step-grandsons, Cayden Tyler Andrews, Gaige Killian Andrews, Camden Ryder Gabriel Andrews, and Jameson Sawyer Benton Andrews of Purvis, MS. He is also survived by four great grandchildren, Patrick Henry and Frances Reese Goudelock, William Dribben and Lucy Suzanne Montgomery and four step-grandchildren, Aiden Parker Townsend, Irie Quinn Lincoln, Cora Elizabeth Broome, and Jasper Robert Broome.
