Glennis Juliette Brown
Glennis Juliette Brown, formerly of Purvis, MS, died peacefully on March 10, 2017, at the Waterford on Highland Colony in Ridgeland, MS. Born in Newton on May 27, 1929, she grew up there and in Laurel. She attended Jones Junior College and Scarritt College in Nashville, TN. After college she married Elton Brown and followed him in his ministry across south and central Mississippi for 66 years. She taught school in all their stops from first grade to high school, special education to shop class. She loved her church families and contributed by singing in the choir and teaching Sunday School classes. Many people have been encouraged and mentored with her wisdom.
She is survived by her husband Elton Brown; daughters Thais Tonore of Madison,
Becky (Alan) Chambers of Clinton, Mary Virginia “Ginny” Dungan of Brandon; brother Joe (Jeannine) Tanner of Sarasota, FL; grandchildren Maegan (Brian) Jones, Shelley Chambers, Kimberly (Scott) Mardis, Chrissy Chambers, Eddie Tonore; great-grandchildren Payton and Caden Jones.
Visitation is Sunday, March 12 from 3-5 pm at Purvis United Methodist Church. Funeral service will be Monday, March 13 at 11am, also at Purvis United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Purvis United Methodist Church.
