Harold Lloyd McKnight                              

Harold Lloyd McKnight, age 92, of Purvis, MS, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, December 29, 2021. 


He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Clara Sorey McKnight, his first wife and mother of his children, Renate Heck McKnight (in 1991); two sisters, Earnestine Cooper and Earline Scruggs, and one step-daughter, Elaine Willoughby. 


He is survived by his wife, Shirley Blackledge McKnight; children, Alfred McKnight (Gail), Monica McKnight Schellinger (Dan), Mona McKnight Dennis (Larry, deceased), Melody McKnight Thornton (Larry); one sister, Anita Cummins; two step-sons, Tim Jones (Kelly), and David Jones (Bonnie); nine grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, and several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.


Mr. McKnight was born on November 25, 1929 in Rayville, LA.  He retired after 31 years with the U.S. Postal Service in the city of Cleveland, MS and as a Rural Carrier in the city of Shaw, MS.  He served 41 years with the U.S. Army and the MS Army National Guard.  He was Commander of the VFW Post 3955 in Purvis, MS, as well as a member of the American Legion Post 126 in Shaw, MS.  He was an avid golfer who hit a total of 4 hole-in-ones; his last one was at the age of 90.


Services will be held at 12:00 Noon on Monday, January 3, 2022, at the Purvis United Methodist Church at 206 Mitchell Avenue, Purvis MS.  Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. until the service at noon.  Interment will be at 1:00 the following day, on Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at the Shaw Cemetery in Shaw, MS.


Memorials may be made to The Wounded Warriors Fund or Purvis United Methodist Church.
