Services will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday, December 22, 2021 at First Baptist Church of Sumrall for Mr. Herbert Haddox, 89, of Sumrall MS.
He passed away Friday, December 17, 2021, at Asbury Hospice House in Hattiesburg.
Interment will be at First Baptist Church of Sumrall Cemetery.
Herbert was born July 30, 1932. In his early years he joined Magee's Creek Baptist Church and was baptized in the creek. He served 2 years in the US Army in Germany. In 1952, he started his oil field career in Louisiana and Texas. He later spent 6 years in Spain, 5 Years in Nigeria, and 5 years in Kuwait. He traveled extensively for many years and had plenty of stories to tell. In 1993, he went on to be a blueberry farmer with 20 acres of blueberries and he continued with the business until 2018. Herbert was a member of the Sumrall American Legion, member of the Sumrall Lions Club for 22 years and a member of the Hattiesburg Masonic Lodge. He loved Sumrall baseball and had his favorite seat behind home plate at Larry Knight field.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Shirley, 2 sons: Scott and Michael (wife, Sallie), 5 grandchildren, the love of his life - his great-grandson Wesson, and his dog, Wheezi.
He made it known that he lived a good life. To know him was to love him, and he will be missed greatly.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM Wednesday at First Baptist Church of Sumrall.
