Isaac Marion Prine

(SFC-USA Ret.) Isaac Marion Prine (Ike), 82, of Hattiesburg, MS (raised in Bunker Hill, MS) passed away Thursday, November 19, 2020, in his home town of Hattiesburg, MS. Isaac “Ike” Prine was many things over his life; a Vietnam Veteran, a Plane Crash Survivor, Lifetime Legacy Member of the VFW, Honor Guard Member, Cub Scout Leader, Hard Worker, Deacon, Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great- Grandfather, soon to be Great-GreatGrandfather, and a Man’s Man. Ike served in the Army during Vietnam. After his deployment flight crashed on takeoff, in Anchorage, he developed a strong “distaste” for flying. He only flew, under orders, for the rest of his 26 year career, in the Army. 25-30 years later, he got on a plane, with his daughter, to go to MD Anderson for her cancer treatments. It was the only good reason to fly, again. Ike’s sons and daughter would talk about how stern “Ike” could be. By the time the grandkids came along, he had “softened”. Sunday mornings, Shipley’s donuts and nestle powder in the milk, was a normal occurrence for the Grandchildren, before heading out to 38th Avenue Baptist Church. At church, each grandchild received a token amount of money to teach the value of tithing. The wall of “Hess trucks” taught the Kids and Grandkids to support where their employment, as he was employed by Hess Oil for many years, after the military. And, there was always an American flag in the yard at every house he lived at, to demonstrate patriotism to his family and friends. Ike wasn’t a perfect man. None of us are. But he was a patriot. He was strong and proud. He loved his kids and grandkids, including his fur babies, that may have gotten preferential treatment over the last 20 years, or so. Those who knew Ike were usually thankful for the time they had with him. His family is thankful for Mrs. Norma Faye Prine, who over the past 10+ years was a devoted wife and companion that loved Ike’s family, like they were her own.
Ike is survived by his wife, Norma Faye Prine, his siblings John(& Paula) Prine and Lovis Mae “Tiny”(& Dub) Hicks, three of his children Randy(& Terriann) Prine, Greg Prine, and Thomas(& Tiffany) Prine, step son Tracey(& Theresa) Patton, grandchildren Andrew(& Elisabeth) Pylant, Scott Pylant, Adam(& Stefany) Prine, Ashley(& Martin) Rich, and Chance Prine, step grandchildren Benjamin Patton, Isabella Patton, and Kerrie Patton, great grandchildren Dinah Pylant, Abbie Pylant, Joshua Pylant, Christian Pylant, Olivia Rich and Elias Rich, along with one great-great-grandchild on the way, and many other extended family and friends.
Ike was preceded in death by his first wife Jewel A. Prine, his parents Roy and Mabel Prine, his brother Jimmy Roy “Bud” Prine and his sister Alice Hinds, and his beloved daughter Kimberly Pylant. For those that are part of the Body of Christ, death is never goodbye. It’s a see you later. Today, Ike is with his baby girl, in glory. His family will see them again soon. But today, we’ll go to work, because that’s what Ike taught us to do.
Visitation will be held 10:00am to 12:00pm, followed with memorial services on Friday, the 27th of November 2020 at Hulett-Winstead Funeral Home, 205 Bay Street, Hattiesburg, MS 39401. Brother Lynn Wallace and Chaplin Bo Tims will officiate.
Interment will be at 2:30pm at the Biloxi National Cemetery 400 Veterans Ave Biloxi, MS 39531. Pallbearers and Taps provided by VFW Post 3036 Honor Guard.
