Jack Foster Burke, Jr.

Jack Foster Burke, Jr. was born in Indianola, Mississippi on August 9, 1934 to Mr. Jack Foster Burke, Sr. and Mrs. Willie Warren Nash Burke.  He graduated from Hattiesburg High School in 1952 and earned a bachelorís degree in accounting from Mississippi State University in 1956.  Mr. Burke was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Air Force where he served on active duty from 1957 to 1960.  He subsequently served another ten years on active reserve, rising to the rank of Major.  In business and civic life, Mr. Burke was a certified public accountant practicing from 1961 until retirement in 2014.  In the 1970ís he served on the Joint Committee to establish the Pine Belt Regional Airport Authority, where he subsequently served as a Commissioner.

In his personal life, he taught Sunday school for almost twenty years.  His interests varied from opera and classical music to football and Biblical history.

Mr. Burke married Janet Colleen Swicegood of Lexington, North Carolina in 1968, and recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.  He is survived by his wife Janet, two children, Jack Foster Burke, III, and Allen Nash Burke, daughter-in-law Claire Neal Burke, and two grandchildren, Elizabeth Maddox Burke and Alexander Nash Burke. 

This humble servant of God returned home on August 19, 2018. 

A celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday, August 22, 2018 at 10:30 AM at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 115 North 25th Avenue, Hattiesburg, MS.
Visitation will follow the services at the church.
Inurnment will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday at Westminster Presbyterian Church Columbarium.
