Dr.  Janet M. Baucum

Dr. Janet Martin Baucum, born April 17, 1937 at Seminary, Mississippi, died February 4, 2018 at Asbury Hospice House in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. She was a Registered Nurse who received a diploma from the Methodist Hospital School of Nursing, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from William Carey College, and a Master of Science and Doctor of Education degree from the University of Southern Mississippi. She worked with people in varying stages of life and health states, in roles from bedside nursing to administration. For over 50 years, Dr. Baucum worked in the areas of nursing practice, education, and research.
Dr. Baucum is preceded in death by her parents, App and Maebell Lowery Davis; her husband, Johnnie Martin; her second husband, Hilton Baucum; and her daughter-in-law, Bettie Gunn Martin. She is survived by her son, John Milton Martin and his children, Emily and Elijah Martin of Hattiesburg, Mississippi; her daughter, Melody Jane Martin Patrick and her son, Cody Patrick of Laurel, Mississippi; her step-daughter, Laura Lea Baucum of Hattiesburg, Mississippi; and her brother, Clarence Abner Davis of Seminary, Mississippi and his family, Eloise and Alan Davis of Moselle, Mississippi and Beverly Davis Rushing of Jackson, Mississippi.
She was a member of Parkway Heights United Methodist Church and the Fidelais Sunday school Class. Donations should be made to Parkway Heights United Methodist Church.
Services will be held on Thursday, February 8, 2018 at Hulett-Winstead Funeral Home in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Visitation will be from 11am-2pm with the memorial service immediately following.
