John R. Cox
Hattiesburg, MS - John R. Cox of Hattiesburg, MS was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on November 30, 2018 after a battle with Alzheimer's Disease. He was 86 years old.
Mr. Cox is survived by his wife of 65 years, Elizabeth (Liz) and three children: daughters Susan Coco (Philip) of Hattiesburg, Sally Evilsizor (Ron Nichols) of Flowood, and a son Jay Cox (Susie) of Benton. He also leaves behind a brother, James Cox of Vicksburg and seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Ralph A. and Sue Cox and brother Curtis Cox.
John was a veteran of the Korean War. He grew up in Louisville, MS, moved to Yazoo City, MS in 1952, and retired to Hattiesburg, MS in 1996 where he and Liz became members of First Presbyterian Church of Hattiesburg. John volunteered at several local civic organizations including the Optimist Club and Oak Grove Youth Sports League. His greatest joy was sitting in the stands supporting and cheering for his grandchildren during their sporting events.
Visitation will be held on December 3, 2018, at Hulett-Winstead Funeral Home in Hattiesburg, MS from 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. with service to follow. Internment and a graveside service will follow at 3:00 p.m. in Yazoo City, MS at Glenwood Cemetery. Memorials may be made to French Camp Academy or your favorite charity.
