Lourachael Ginsberg (“Lou”) passed away on December 14, 2020 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi at the age of 90 following a brief illness.
Ms. Ginsberg is survived by her sons, Perry Ginsberg and Michael Ginsberg, her son and daughter-in-law Jay Ginsberg and Eleanor Graham, and her grandchildren, Caroline Carbo and Benjamin Carbo. She is preceded in death by her husband of more than 50 years, Herbert Ginsberg (“Herb”).
Born on August 27, 1930 in Vicksburg, Mississippi to Jacob and Mildred Bloom Kern, and growing up in Bastrop, Louisiana with her older brother, Leo Kern, Lou moved to Hattiesburg from New Orleans in 1952, after meeting and marrying Herb, a Hattiesburg attorney, who she loved dearly and has missed every day since his passing.
Lou dedicated her life to her family and to the Jewish community in Hattiesburg as an active member of the B’nai Israel Sisterhood, as a local youth group advisor, and through her work with the Henry S. Jacobs Camp in Utica, Mississippi, where she was not a nurse.
Private family graveside services will be held at the B’nai Israel Cemetery, Hattiesburg, Mississippi. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Henry S. Jacobs Camp Lou & Herb Ginsberg Scholarship Fund, to the Goldring/Woldenberg Institute of Southern Jewish Life, or to the charity of your choosing.
