LTC (RET) Robert Eugene  Housley

Purvis, MS  - LTC (RET) Robert E. "Bob" Housley, beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother and friend, passed away on October 18, 2018 at his home in Purvis, Mississippi. He was 80 years old.
Bob was born in Millard, Mississippi on January 4, 1938, the second of four children to Bill and Pallie Housley. He graduated from Bogalusa High School in 1955. He attended Pearl River Junior College in Poplarville, where he played football. He received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from the University of Southern Mississippi.
Before volunteering for active duty, Bob had been a member of the Mississippi National Guard, joining in 1953, and a Civil Service electronics instructor at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, MS. He obtained his commission through Officer Candidate School (OCS), graduated from the engineer basic and advanced courses, was a Master Aviator and a Command and General Staff College graduate. He served three tours in Vietnam, flying fixed wing and helicopters. During his Army career, he was a flight instructor, company commander, executive officer, director of the Army Aviation Board and Professor of Military Science. LTC Housley was the recipient of numerous awards, including the Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star Medal and Meritorious Service Medal. After his military service, Bob was the County Administrator for Lamar County.
LTC Housley was preceded in death by his parents, William R. Housley and Pallie Carr Housley; his older brother, William Wayne Housley and Carolyn's granddaughter, Madison.
LTC Housley is survived by his wife, Carolyn Grant Kirkpatrick Housley; one son, Robert E. Housley, Jr. (Youngeun Kim) of Olympia, WA; two daughters, Lisa Gayle Bacon (Rodney) of Houston, TX; Teresa Lynn McMullan (Bill) of Cabot, AR; seven amazing grandchildren and his former wife, Peggy Nell Housley of Houston, TX; a brother, Jack Housley (Jan) of Purvis, MS; a sister, Janie Thacker (Tony) of Madison, MS; a sister-in-law, Pearlie Housley of Purvis, MS and many other family members. He is also survived by Carolyn's children, Christopher, Camellia, Cassie and two grandchildren.
Visitation is at Hulett-Winstead Purvis Chapel from 5:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. on Monday, October 22, 2018. Services will be held on Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at Hulett-Winstead Purvis Chapel. Interment will be in Pineridge-Hartfield Cemetery, with full military honors.
