Lucy McCurdie

Lucy Ellen Welch  McCurdie, 97, passed away peacefully on April 29, 2018, at her home with her family at her side.
Lucy Ellen lived most of her life in Hattiesburg.  She was Salutatorian of her Hattiesburg High School graduating class and was an honor graduate of Judson College.
She married her husband, Tom in 1942, and they returned to live in Hattiesburg in 1953 after his military service.  As a mother, she was always active in her daughters' activities offering encouragement and support in every respect.  As a wife, she joined her husband in the establishment of his business.  As a widow, she began a new career in the Office of Hearings and Appeals in the  Social Security Administration, retiring after 25 years at age 80.  She was an avid flower gardener and enjoyed every opportunity to fish.
Soft spoken, Lucy Ellen was a unique person who was always giving, always kind and always loving.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom McCurdie, and her sister, Mary Jo Morgan. 
She is survived by her two daughters, Janet (Charles H., III) of Decatur, Alabama, Ellen McCurdie of Hattiesburg; two grandsons, Charles H. Boyd IV of Helena, Alabama and Thomas McCurdie Boyd of Nashville, Tennessee; two great granddaughters, two great grandsons, and two nephews, Ed Morgan of Canton, Mississippi and Jim Morgan of Hattiesburg.
Designated charities are Abbie Rogers Civitan Camp, the Hattiesburg Zoo,  and Southern Pines Animal Shelter.
Graveside Services will be held at 11:30 A.M. Wednesday at Roseland Park Cemetery, with visitation beginning at 9:30 A.M. Wednesday at Hulett-Winstead Funeral Home.
