Martha Ward Allen
Graveside services will be held at 12:00 noon Monday at Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham, AL for Mrs. Martha Ward Allen, 88, of Greenville, MS.
She died Thursday, August 2, 2018 at Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg, MS.
Mrs. Allen was born in Bessemer, AL and graduated from Phillips High School in Birmingham, AL and the University of Montevallo, AL with a degree in music. She married Dr. T.L. Clair Allen making their home in Memphis, TN before moving to Greenville, MS in 1952. A homemaker, Mrs. Allen dedicated her life to her husband and children. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Greenville, MS serving as Sunday school teacher, choir member and a member of W.M.U. She was a life member of the Greenville Junior Auxiliary, a past member of Junior Women's Club and Belhaven Garden Club. She received an Angel Among Us award along with her husband, Dr. Clair Allen. She was a resident of Provision Living in Hattiesburg, MS for seven years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leon M. and Lula Holcomb Ward and a sister, Zoe Ward Hughens.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Dr. T.L. Clair Allen; two daughters, Janis Barnes (Joel) of Hattiesburg, MS and Cheryl Polk (Wayne) of Meridian, MS; one son, Wayne Allen (Peggy) of Dallas, TX; grandchildren, Jim Barnes (Kelsey), Gina Smith (Todd), Craig Allen (Katherine), Cody Allen (Aubrey), and Ashlyn Allen; three great-grandchildren.
