Mary Lonnye Hunt Norman, age 91, of Hattiesburg, died Saturday, November 3, at Forrest General Hospital.
Lonnye was born in Hattiesburg on May 2, 1927. She graduated from Hattiesburg High School, and MSCW with a degree in Sociology. A lifetime resident of Hattiesburg, she was an active member of Main Street United Methodist Church where she served on the Board of Trustees and Administrative Council. She was a member of the Beth Vickers Circle and the Ivah Wilber Sunday School Class.
Lonnye loved her hometown and served as President of the Hattiesburg Junior Auxiliary, Secretary of the National Junior Auxiliary, Regent of the Norvell Robertson Chapter of the DAR, President of Four Seasons Garden Club, President of the Pine Burr Club, and President of the Pi Beta Phi Alumni Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-five years, Louis Eastland Norman, Jr.; her parents, Albert Leon Hunt Sr. and Mary Emma Banks Hunt; and her brother, Albert Leon Hunt Jr.
She is survived by two sons, Banks Woodward Norman, and Clifton Lee Norman (Julie), both of Hattiesburg; eight grandchildren Mary Clayton Dunn (Jason), Lee Norman (Mallory), Alison Norman, Mary Brandon Johnson (Kirk), Louis Norman III (Brittney), Brittany Norman, Brooke Norman, and Bailee Norman; and seven great children Jay Dunn, Jack Dunn, Emma Dunn, Caroline Dunn, Benjamin Norman, Ann Chancellor Norman, and Ellie Norman.
Her foundation of happiness was her faith, her family, and her friends.
Services will be on Tuesday, November 6, 2018, at Main Street United Methodist Church with visitation beginning at 10:30 AM with the Celebration of Life to follow at 12:00 PM. A private graveside service will follow at Highland Cemetery.
