Mildred "Millie" Lee Armstrong Draughn

Mildred “Millie” Lee Armstrong Draughn went to her heavenly home on the morning of October 15, 2021.

She was born on October 16th 1933.

She resided in Petal Mississippi with the love of her life, George B. They were wed on her birthday, October 16, 1955. They raised three children and a farm full of animals on Carterville Road in Petal.

Mildred received her nursing degree in 1955. She retired from nursing, roughly 40 years later when she resigned from Methodist (Wesley) Hospital. In her retired years she enjoyed attending mission trips with Carterville Baptist Church where she remained an active and devoted member until her later years in life. She helped with Wednesday night suppers with all of her friends, as well as delivered meals on wheels many weeks throughout the summer months with the help of her grandchildren. She just loved to take care of people, as it was built into her nature. She was a devoted spouse, mother, and grandmother as well as a friend.

She is preceded in death by her husband, George B. Draughn, Sr.; parents, Ollie Armstrong, and Oliver Rae Armstrong;  her siblings, Donald Armstrong, Hershel Armstrong, Dorothy (Dot) Armstrong, and Savannah (Susie) Hartfield, and her son, Michael Draughn.

She is survived by her children, Benita (Ronnie) Manning, Benny (Mary) Draughn, and Sandra (Yancy) Gordon; her grandchildren: Nichole (Chris) Phares, Michael Draughn, Ryan Draughn, Ethan (Leanna) Manning, and Rachel (Tyler) McSwain; and her great-grandchildren, Asten Phares, Deven Phares, and Desmond “Wade” McSwain; along with a slew of nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

We would like to send special thanks to all of the nurses and CNA’s at Bedford Care in Petal, and extended thanks to Brandi Odom (Hospice Nurse) as well as Stacie Newsome (Director of Nursing) for taking such great care of Mom/Memaw.

In lieu of flowers, please send all donations to the Alzheimer’s Association at ACT.ALZ.ORG to help further research on the disease, and remember the family in the days and weeks ahead.

Services will be held at 11:30 AM Thursday, October 21, 2021 at Hulett-Winstead Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will begin at 9:30 AM Thursday at Hulett-Winstead Funeral Home.
