Nathan Neal Pounders
After a brief illness, early on September 5, 2019, Nathan Neal Pounders went to join his mother and granddaughter in Heaven.
Neal was preceded in death by his mother Melba Dean Pounders, his brother Mickey Pounders and granddaughter Nora Hofer.
He is survived by his wife, Donna Pounders; his daughters Tera Hofer (Dustin) and Madeline Pounders; his grandson, Hayes Hofer, all of whom are from Sumrall; his father Gorman S. Pounders from Oak Grove; his brother Jeff Pounders from Gulfport; one niece and two nephews.
Neal was born in Alexandria, LA on December 8, 1961, the youngest son of Dean and Steele Pounders. He was a resident of Sumrall for the past 25 years. He graduated from USM with a degree in Art and he taught Art for many years at Sumrall High School where he was a Star teacher. Neal eventually stopped teaching to follow his dream of having his own painting business. He was an accomplished artist and a lover of Classic Rock, particularly Rush. He loved his dogs and was always bringing strays into his home.
Neal was a loving father and a doting grandfather; his daughters and grandchildren were his heart. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends, but we know that he has found peace in Heaven.
A gathering of family and friends to celebrate Neal's life will be held from 1:00-3:00 PM Saturday, September 14, 2019 at Hulett-Winstead Funeral Home Sumrall Chapel.
