Our beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Nellie Irene House Amason, 89, left this earth to live with Jesus on Monday, August 28, 2017.
Mrs. Amason was born in Meridian, MS on August 30, 1927.  After marrying her loving husband W.A. Amason, they raised their children in Raleigh, MS and then moved to Petal, MS, where they lived the remainder of their lives.  Mrs. Irene will be remembered for her deep love of her family.    She was an artist who loved to paint watercolor portraits and southern landscapes.  She also worked as a hair stylist at Coiffures by Marguerite for many years.  She was a member of Petal Harvey Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband W.A. Amason, her parents Ralph & Jane House, her brothers Alvin and Lamar House, and her great grandson Christian Brett Hannah. 
Survivors include her children Mrs. Susan Thornton (Paul), Mrs. Jane Callender Johnson (Wayland), Mrs. Deborah Lowery (Mike), and Anthony Amason (Pam).  She is also survived by her 8 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren whom she loved dearly.
The family will greet friends during a visitation on Thursday, August 31, 2017 at Hulett-Winstead Funeral Home in Hattiesburg, MS from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm.  Funeral services will be at 11:30 am Friday, September 1, 2017 at Hulett-Winstead Funeral Home as well.  The interment will follow the services at Hillcrest Cemetery in Petal, MS.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of Bedford Care Nursing Home in Hattiesburg for their loving care.  Memorials may be made in her name to Petal Harvey Baptist Church, Petal, MS.
