Oscar Mills Mixon, Jr.

Oscar Mills Mixon, Jr. was born on September 4, 1941 in New Augusta, MS.  He returned to his heavenly home on March 3, 2020 from Hattiesburg, MS.  He was 78 years old.

He was an active member of Cypress Creek Baptist Church teaching Sunday School for many years and had previously served as Church Secretary.  He was a member of Beaumont Lodge #468.

Following graduation from New Augusta High School, he attended Jones County Junior College and The University of Southern Mississippi.

Following college he spent several years as a school teacher.  Later in life he would become an accomplished carpenter, cabinet maker and home builder.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar Mills Mixon, Sr., and Doris Anderson Mixon and sister Margaret Sue Spicer.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years Lavetta Breland Mixon, one son Lanny LeRoy Mixon (Stephanie) two grandchildren, John Mills Mixon and Corliss Anne Mixon.  Brothers William Felder Mixon (Bernice) and Sidney Hugh Mixon (Melinda) and sister Mary Estelle Williams (Thomas).  Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins as well as scores of friends.

Pallbearers - James Ray Cochran, Linus B. Martin III, Kevin O’Neal, Tim Paris, Steve Spicer and  Paul Walley.

Services will be held at Cypress Creek Baptist Church on Saturday, March 7, 2020.  Visitation will be from 9:30 AM - 11:00 AM, with services at 11:00 AM.  Internment will follow at Fairley Cemetary.
