Peggy Keyes

Peggy Joe Holder Keyes, 91, passed away on November 18, 2017, at her home in Hattiesburg.
She was born on April 12, 1926 to Jeremiah Goodman Holder and Loyce Tucker Holder of Bay Springs. Peggy graduated valedictorian of Bay Springs High School in 1944. She received a B.S. degree in Home Economics with an elementary education certification in 1948 from Belhaven College. She and Robert W. Keyes, Sr. married on October 11, 1948. They were married 22 years before his death in 1971.
Peggy taught one year in public school and 24 years in both private and religious kindergartens, the last 18 years being at Temple Baptist Church. With her love for children, she devoted many years teaching third grade and kindergarten-aged children at Main Street Baptist Church in the Training Union classes. She was also active in her Sunday School classes, VBS sessions, and the WMU (Women's Missionary Union).
Peggy had several life-long hobbies-- among them, collecting hundreds of cookbooks, Noah's Ark memorabilia, decorative magnets and other items. She loved to send birthday and get-well cards and receive them from family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Jeremiah Goodman Holder of Union; her mother Loyce Tucker Holder of Union; a brother, Jerry G. Holder of Texarkana, TX; a sister, Mary Lou Holder Grady of Ridgeland, MS, and a granddaughter, Amanda S. Winstead of Hattiesburg.
She is survived by her two daughters, Melinda K. Winstead (Ricky) and Kimble R. Keyes both of Hattiesburg; a son, Robert W. "Robby" Keyes, Jr. (Pam) of Ringgold, GA; five grandchildren; one great-granddaughter, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services for Peggy Keyes will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, the 25th, at Main Street Baptist Church with visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the church.
Interment will be in Bay Springs Cemetery at 2:30 p.m.
