Rev. Mack Prentiss Jones
Services will be held at 10 A.M. Thursday at First Baptist Church Purvis for Reverend Mack Prentiss Jones, age 89, of Purvis, MS who was called home to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 19, 2018 with his wife, Marie, at his side. He was born January 2, 1929, the youngest of 8 children, to Lawrence & Lula Jones, in Wayne County near Waynesboro, MS.
Mack received an Associate of Arts Degree from Jones County Junior College in Ellisville, MS and a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Mississippi College at Clinton, MS . His graduate degrees include a Bachelor of Divinity Degree and a Masters of Theology (with honors), both from the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He was ordained as a minister on August 29, 1950 by the Clara Baptist Church, Clara, MS.
On June 15, 1952. Mack married Marie Martin who was his cherished wife and partner in the ministry for 66 years.
He devoted his life to serving his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, in the ministry of winning souls to Christ.
In 1950 he began his ministry as pastor of Liberty Baptist Church, in Alabama. During his many years in the ministry he served as the pastor of churchs in Mississippi, Eugene & Klamath Falls, Oregon and Alabama.
In 1963 Mack & Marie were appointed to serve in the foreign mission field as Missionaries by the Foreign Mission Board, SBC and served in South American and Mexico until they retired in 1994.
Pagosa Springs, Colorado became their new home where they continued to serve in the ministry until they returned to their home state of Mississippi in 2014, settling in Purvis, MS.
Mack is survived by his wife, Marie, and many nieces and nephews who loved and respected him and will miss him dearly.
Mack is preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence & Lula Jones; brothers, Pat Jones, Aubrey Jones, Albert Ray Jones & Melvin Jones ; sisters , Almoa Jones, Elsie Beard & Lois Russell.
Visitation will begin at 8 A.M. Thursday at the church.
