Sara West Brewton

Sara Elizabeth West Brewton has passed away from her earthly life to her heavenly reward. Her church membership was transferred from Parkway Heights United Methodist Church in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, to the Church Triumphant. Mrs. Brewton was born August 30, 1932, in Hamilton, Mississippi, and passed away November 28, 2021. She was 89 years young.

Mrs. Brewton was known for her tremendous gardening skills at her lovely home on Evergreen Lane in Hattiesburg, Broad Street United Methodist Church, Parkway Heights United Methodist Church, Wesley Manor Retirement Home, and Bellevue Assisted Living.  She had the proverbial green thumb. She also was a self-taught culinary chef and a world-class clothes manufacturer for children and adults as well as clothes for dolls and stuffed animals.

Mrs. Brewton was known affectionately as Sara to her beloved late husband, Jack Cleavland Brewton. She was also known as Mother, Mom, Momma, Mrs. Brewton, Mrs. B., Grandmother, and MawMa
.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Horace Greeley West and Rachael Elizabeth Willis; and her brother, John Terrell (Sylvia) West.

She is survived by her four children whom she loved unconditionally: Carolyn Brewton (Doug) Lowery of Hattiesburg, Patricia Brewton (James) Salter of Hattiesburg, Randy Brewton of Knoxville, Tennessee, and Helen Brewton (Wade) Sims of Meridian. She cherished her ten grandchildren Stephanie (Josh) VanLandingham, Katie (Casey) Hankins, Chris (Heather) Lowery, Philip (Sarah) Salter, Nic (Madison) Brewton, Tripp (Ashley) Sims, Madison (Kyle) Trayser, Rachel Lee, Helen Peake Sims, and John Daniel Lee; and her six great-grandchildren, Katelyn, Owen, Jackson, Jack, Julia, and Emerson.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks and deep gratitude to the ER and ICU medical staff at Merit Health Wesley in Hattiesburg and the staff at Bellevue Assisted Living in Hattiesburg.

Hulett-Winstead Funeral Home, Downtown Hattiesburg, is in charge of the arrangements which will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 4, 2021. Visitation will be at 1:00 p.m Saturday.

Interment will be at Highland Cemetery in Hattiesburg.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Bellevue Assisted Living Resident Fund, the Parkway Heights United Methodist Church, or your favorite charity in Mrs. Brewton’s name.
