S. J. Gipson

Graveside Services will be held at 2:00pm Sunday, March 14, 2021 at Pleasant Home Cemetery for Mr. S. J. Gipson age 84, of Baxterville, MS, who died Thursday, March 11, 2021 at Merit Health Wesley.

S. J. Gipson known to all as Broad, was born on January 9, 1937 to Margaret Salena (Lena) Burge Gipson and James Roudy Gipson.  He married his teenage sweetheart, Frances Merle (Mama) Reid Gipson, at a young age and remained married to her until her death on February 28, 2010.  He was the last survivor of 8 siblings.  Daddy was a hardworking man who started working in the oilfield industry and became a Driller.  He later worked at Southland Oil Company, as a welder until he retired.  In his retirement, he shared a pulp wood business with his son, Timmy Gipson.

Daddy had few hobbies but he enjoyed tinkering with all things mechanical and could repair almost anything with a motor.  Daddy never met a stranger and had numerous friends.  He loved to talk and enjoyed good food.

Besides his love for his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and his great great grandchildren, he enjoyed trips to the mountains and was a member of The Church of God of Baxterville, where Bro. Terry Rayborn is the pastor.

Daddy will be deeply missed by his family and friends, but he will be with Mama again, who he missed beyond measure.  We couldn’t have asked for a better Father.

He was preceded in death by:  Wife, Frances Merle Reid Gipson.  Siblings:  Hazel Smith, Hester Rayborn, Mildred Rayborn, Bill Gipson, Ross Gipson, Charles Gipson, Betty Ashlock, Billy Jo Gipson.

He is survived by 2 sons,  Ottis Ray Gipson (wife-Barbara) and Timothy Allen Gipson (wife-Maxine); two daughters,  Dora Gipson Ezell (husband-Randy), Sheila Brilyn Gipson, and great family friend Rochelle DeLaune, who was like a daughter to him; 5 grandchildren,  Angelia Gipson Desselle, Sonya Grace Gipson, Amy DeLynn Barham, Gage Gipson and Miles Gipson Ezell; 6 great-grandchildren,  Brant Griner, Katie Griner, Grayce Housley, Josh Housley, Bri Barham, Noah Barham; 3 great-great-grandchildren:  Carson Griner, McKenzie Griner and Layton Griner.

Visitation will begin at 1:30pm Sunday at Pleasant Home Cemetery.
