Walter Britton Barham
Services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday at Main Street Baptist Church for Mr. Walter Britton Barham, 92, of Hattiesburg, MS.
He died Monday, December 11, 2017 at his residence.
Interment will be in Dixie Cemetery with military rites performed by the Marine Corp. League.
Mr. Barham retired as mechanical superintendent with the Hattiesburg American Newspaper after 32 years. He was a longtime resident of the Dixie Community. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp during WW II in the South Pacific Theater.
Mr. Barham was a Masonic member of the Scottish and York Rites. He was a Shriner and served many years as a transporter that drove crippled children to the Shriner's Children's Hospital.
Mr. Barham enjoyed woodworking, building furniture for his family, church, and friends. He enjoyed traveling and visiting every state. Mr. Barham loved his family and doing family activities.
He was a member of Main Street Baptist Church and was active in church throughout his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Georgia Rose Barham; four sisters and four brothers.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanette Hogan Barham of Hattiesburg, MS; three sons, Mike Barham (Anita) of Sumrall, MS, Mark Barham of Purvis, MS, and John Salter (Beth)of Acworth, GA; one daughter, Brenda Mixon of Hattiesburg, MS; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Main Street Baptist Church, 11 Main St. Blvd., Hattiesburg, MS 39402.
Visitation will begin at 9:30 AM Thursday at Main Street Baptist Church.
