Walter Murrah Elmore

Walter M. Elmore “Murrah” passed away on November 20, 2017.  Murrah was born in Middlesboro, Kentucky to Walter M. Elmore and Martha Jewel (Halbert) Elmore on November 17, 1938.

On May 11, 1957, Murrah married Joyce Victoria (Bond) Elmore of Mississippi and this year they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.

Murrah  retired from the Florida Department of Transportation after 40 years; he was an avid outdoorsman and he spent many years on swamp buggies and airboats hunting and fishing in the Everglades.  He enjoyed traveling the Country with his family.  In his spare time he dedicated himself to supporting his church and other organizations.

Murrah and Joyce moved to Okeechobee in 2003 from Homestead, Florida, where they had resided since 1955.

Murrah is predeceased by his father Walter M. Elmore and his mother Martha Jewel (Halbert) Elmore.

He is survived by his wife of sixty years, Joyce Victoria (Bond) Elmore; brother-in-law, Shelton Bond (Debbie); nieces and nephews, Billye A. Oden (Donnie), Sharyl, Derrick, Maddie, Daryl, Katelyn, J.D., Pat Russell (Elliot), Heather, Chad, Eric, Jane Weatherford (Terry), Jennifer and Eli, as well as a host of family members and friends.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, November 22, 2017, from 10:00 AM until service time of 11:00 AM at The First United Methodist Church of Okeechobee, FL.  Additional services will be held at Hulett-Winstead Funeral Chapel in Sumrall, MS.
Interment will be in Advance Cemetery.
