William Allen Denkler
William Allen Denkler passed away peacefully after a long, full life on Saturday, December 21, 2019, at his home in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. He was born on June 27, 1922, in Memphis, Tennessee to Louise and Henry Denkler. He is survived by his wife, Betty Holt Denkler, his brother, John Denkler, two daughters, Karen Denkler and Patricia Denkler, and two sons, Mark Denkler and Glenn Denkler. He is also survived by four step children, Linda Gahlenbeck Kennedy, Amy Gahlenbeck Clarke, William Gahlenbeck and Gary Gahlenbeck. He was blessed with grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
William was a retired Commander, U. S. Navy. He proudly served as a fighter pilot, decorated for valor in World War II and the Korean War. After his retirement, he worked as an administrator with the School of Nursing at the University of Southern Mississippi. He also served as the Secretary-Treasurer of the Dixie Utility Water Association for many years.
He was an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Hattiesburg and a former member of St. Christopherís in Pensacola.
William was a member of Elks Lodge #599 at Elks Lake.
His happiest days were spent on the porch of the Goose Roost with Betty overlooking beautiful Elkís Lake.
The family would like to thank the Compassus Hospice nurses, Wes and Marie, for their outstanding compassionate care. We would also like to thank his brother-in-arms, Brad Scott, with Veteranís Affairs ,for his steady and devoted care of the Denkler family.
A Funeral Service in memory of William will be held on Wednesday, January 8th, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, 509 W. Pine St., Hattiesburg, with The Rev. Donna J. Gerold officiating. A Committal will follow at the Trinity Columbarium.
