Winnie Lee Thompson Douglas
Graveside Services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, August 19, 2021 at Dixie United Methodist Church Cemetery for Mrs. Winnie Lee Thompson Douglas, 97, of Hattiesburg, MS.
She died Saturday, August 14, 2021.
Mrs. Douglas' greatest source of pride was being a military wife and Mother of six children. She became a Goldstar Mother when her oldest son was killed in Vietnam. As a young bride of a soldier, her life was adventurous. She lived in Mississippi, Louisiana, and Watervliet, NY and Bremerhaven, Germany, then back to Hattiesburg where they retired from the Military.
Winnie loved to host her family for holidays. Nothing delighted her more than decorating her house, cooking, and shopping for Christmas holidays. She was an avid gardener and craft woman. She love to sew, quilt, crochet, cross stitch, or try her hand at any craft that caught her eye to complete.
Winnie Lee (Wink) you will be sorely missed by your children, grandchildren, and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold James (Sarge) Douglas, son, Paul Melvin Douglas; parents, Mattie Usrey Thompson and Joseph Bayard Thompson, and seven siblings.
She is survived by three sons, Stephen R. Douglas (Karen) of Hideaway, TX, Kenneth E. Douglas (Shirley) of Leesburg, GA, and Charles W. Douglas (Dianne) of Newton, MS; two daughters, Sharon Whatley (Roy) of the Dixie Community and Mary Douglas Winters of Hattiesburg, MS; thirteen grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM Thursday at Dixie United Methodist Church.
